Call to Order 6:37 p.m.

Introduction:

● Thank you to Freetail for hosting

● New for 2024 is a PPT presentation to guide meetings

● New neighbors:

○ Gabe & Brenda Sanchez on Weaver

Announcements:

● New t-shirts for sale for $10; Old Fiesta medals for sale for $1

○ Thank you to our t-shirt business sponsors: Freetail, Caliente Hot Glass,

Bakke Development, and Nate Young

● Thank you for the food donations to SA food bank

○ Food drive supports D3’s sustainability initiative/support the food bank

● New trees in Roosevelt Park

● Elections (Tex Morgan, precinct chair for the democratic party)

○ Election Day is Mar 5

○ Early voting begins today and continues all week from 8 AM-6 PM; Sat 8

AM-8 PM; Sun noon – 6 PM; next week 8 AM – 8 PM

● South Flores Police Substation Public Art Survey

○ Social media survey for public art at S. Flores substation

○ Jeff will send the link to anyone interested

● Rotary Club of San Antonio South event (James Quintana)

○ Charity golf tournament on March 23 at Brackenridge Golf Course to raise

scholarship funds for students on southside

○ Seeking business owners to participate and volunteers for goody bags,

raffles, etc.

○ $150 for individual entry; $540 for team entry

● County Commissioner Rebecca Clay-Flores has free rodeo tickets

○ Located at 2620 S Presa

○ Working on plans to expand next door and a new mural

○ Membership is good for the calendar year

● Motion to renew website subscription ($150) passes

Old Business:

● Robert B Green Update (Thomas Davis on behalf of Grace Sanchez)

○ Bonham expanding to Green campus; Green will join Riverside

○ Green will be preK – 2; Bonham will be 3 – 8

○ Grace is working with friends of Bonham on a $20k city grant due end of

April to increase shade canopy, native trees, pollinators in Roosevelt Park

● Street Racing

○ No further issues reported

Third Prize Drawing

New Business:

● County Commissioner’s Office (Juan Moreno)

○ Mural in memory of 53 migrants opened at Mission County Park

○ New hospital near TAMU-SA to open in 2026

○ New nursing program announced

● SAFFE Officers’ Updates

○ D3 Officer Arredondo

■ Clean-up of I-90 access road

■ Individual was located and arrested (felony warrant) after shots

fired in the air on Weaver/Hansford

■ Only 8 rooms are open at EverKleen

● City needs to approve full re-opening

● Hotel being monitored

■ Working on a DART warrant for Gadi

○ D5 Officer Hernandez

■ Abandoned house on E Whittier being monitored

● Conservation Society (Monica Savino, Thelma Parker, Mark Kusey)

○ 100 th anniversary

○ Submit an application for a building grants to restore history properties

○ Old Spanish Trail conference in March is free

○ Need volunteers for NIOSA

○ Yturri-Edmunds update

■ Thank you to the neighbors who helped at the work day

■ Ongoing exterior and interior reports should be complete end of

spring/summer

■ Regular tours to resume and more landscaping to be installed

● VIA Green Line (Jeff Hunt)

○ Fast transit route just south of 90 on Roosevelt will run downtown to San

Pedro and eventually City Base to La Cantera with 3 bus stops in

Roosevelt Park

○ Currently in first phase (VIA has not yet received federal funding)

○ Concerns

■ Turn-around at Caliente Hot Glass

■ Stop at Yellowstone

● Proposal to move this stop to Mission

■ RPNA will arrange a future VIA-specific meeting to discuss

● Blessed Sacrament Academy Update (David Martinez)

○ Thanks for coming to Neighbors Together

○ Southside Book Fair on March 24 from 11 am - 5 pm

○ Taste of Southside on April 13/14 to benefit the high school

● D3 Office Update (Enrique Trevino)

○ New bond for parks

■ Trees slated for bond project

■ Next bond meeting is in May

■ Dog park slated for ‘25

○ Parks & Rec installed parking blocks to prevent donuts in Concepcion lot

○ Faded signage at Theo Ave replaced

○ Pools will be open on time

○ Increase in graffiti working to get clean

○ Investigating how TXDot can help with litter accumulation from freeway

● D5 Office Update (Derek Tulowitzky, Teri Castillo)

○ Need lifeguards for Roosevelt Park pool

○ Greenline map available

○ Lower property tax bill

○ Pressure being applied to Newell Recycling for generation of fumes,

including a task force

○ Encourage neighborhood to apply for AARP art grant
