Announcements:
● Roosevelt Park pool opened!!! Open Tuesday - Friday 5-8 and weekends 1-8
● New plumbing work on Roosevelt between McKinley and Wilkins
● Thank you for bringing schools supplies for Robert Green Academy - will deliver on
Friday 8/25
● SAFFE Officer Captains meeting - Citizen’s Police Academy open to anyone
● Erin Bender at D5 budget committee tonight
● Encourage you to sign up for D3 or D5 newsletter
● Working on new t-shirts - we have two sponsors: Freetail and Devora Realty
● Robert Green Academy is on the list to potentially be closed next year. Public
meeting August 28th at Brackenridge HS for comment

● Grace Sanchez shared that there are talks about the potential of merging Green
Academy with Bonham Academy, potentially having the younger grades of Bonham
utilize the Green campus
○ Motion was made & seconded for RPNA to support Green elementary
being absorbed with Bohnam as an early elementary school - Approved
● George Cisneros - Urban 15
○ Tree in front of Green Elementary was in the Selena movie - trying to get
a plaque to mark it as a significant part of movie history
○ Short Film Festival - September 29 - October 7
● Commissioner Rebecca Clay-Flores
○ 5K on October 8th at NW Vista
○ Supported pay increase for sheriff’s department
○ Supported back to school events - district covers 10 ISDs
○ Will sponsor the popcorn for RPNA movie night
○ San Pedro creek project - encourage people to visit it

○ SAFFE Officers’ Updates
■ D3 Officer Arredondo
● Steve’s & Roosevelt - Whataburger employee struck by train and
killed earlier today
● Everkleen Motel - owner suspected of renting out rooms, although
not supposed to be, most former residents are now at the Sunset
Motel
● 132 Weaver - 1 arrest, 5 criminal suspect arrests
● Isabel and Kalteyer - racing cars and donuts. D3 working on it.
● Gunshots around School and Roosevelt - aware of issue, trying to
determine where they are coming from
○ Neighbor suggests it could be shooting at animals -
racoons, possums
■ District 5 Officer Hernandez
● Concern areas on Wilkins, Yellowstone and off of greenbelt
● SAPD arrested someone on Yellowstone this week who followed
a woman home
● Conservation Society - nonprofit, celebrating 100 year anniversary next year
○ Yturri-Edmunds House - house from 1820, would like to open it to the public, will
be doing a day of service to clean up property before an open house in
November
○ Community Building grant program - reimbursement grant for homeowners
working on their properties (50 years or older)
● Colleen Swain - World Heritage
○ World Heritage Festival coming up
○ Drag Show August 26th
○ Mission gateway project - lighting needs to be approved by FAA
● Mission Concepcion - Rebecca Simmons
○ El Camino - get a passport, walk to all the SA missions, can continue the walk in
Spain

○ Pilgrimage Center behind Concepcion open M-F 9 to 5, will expand later to
weekends
○ D3 - Enrique Trevino
■ Solid Waste has done 3 abatement on I90 in Roosevelt and I90 and
Mission
■ Back to School items donated
■ Monitors high illumination towers on I90 - ensuring that they are working
○ District 5 – Justin Renteria
■ Use SASpeakup.com to provide input on budget
● Bat Island - thank you to Ruben Gonzales for mowing Bat Island (triangle at Baity and
Castillo). Need a new volunteer to continue to mow it.
Committee Reports
● Movie in the Park September 30th - Jamie
○ Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark
○ Free food!! Starts at 7.
● Trash Pickup - Ken
○ Next day is September 23rd on Mission Road down to Concepcion
○ Looking to tie in with Basura Bash at a future pickup
● Littering Committed
○ Itty bitty liter committee - looking for feedback on litter - watch for survey
○ Still looking for members
● Family Day in the Park
○ Next date: Saturday, September 30th
● Neighbors Together - Blessed Sacrament Academy on Tuesday, October 3rd
○ Formerly National Night Out
○ Includes huge rummage sale
● Day in Southtown - Jeff
○ Fitness - free yoga in the morning
○ Parks & Rec bringing in activities from 10-2
○ Potentially a kickball tournament
● Halloween Parade and Block Party
○ October 31st at 5:30 - line up at Green Elementary
○ Block party after the parade
○ $150 for street closure + $150 for porta pot
○ Requesting $330 for the neighborhood Halloween event, unless covered by a
corporate sponsor, then funds would be used for something else.
